No. Your business does not need to be active on all the social media platforms. Yes. You need to know your target market and where to find them. In the previous post I mentioned that you need a goal when setting up a social media page. Each Social Media platform has a different audience and each of these audiences have their own expectations on what to expect on the platform. While there are many social media platforms we will only be looking at three of them. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. So, what do you post on what platform? (remember, you don’t need all of them, only where you target audience is in)

Facebook:

Studies have shown that Facebook users are more likely to be engaged with posts that include videos or live videos. A video is something that grabs attention and can go viral (with that being said a video can go viral for all the wrong reasons as well, so please make sure before posting!) Tutorials are always great to film, as well as expert advice, or short stories of your business. A second thing that stood out of this research was that content driven post are creating more likes. I for one believe that a good content post is the way to go. It doesn’t have to be long but make it informative and entertaining. Use the lingo of your target market!

Instagram:

Instagram is perfect for photos, quotes, and stories and has become a platform where people post only the best photos on their profile. If you think about using Instagram as a Social Media platform you can post product photos, behind the scenes photos, and re-post photos of clients (with their permission of course). Another great feature of this platform is the “story” setting. This can show tutorials, announce promotions, share giveaways, and of course storytelling.

Twitter:

Research shown that Twitter-users are people that are interested in breaking news and news in general. Links to articles or blog posts are shared, as well as to websites, and GIF’s are also a Twitter feature that is very popular. (GIF’s are known as moving images). Twitter is a platform with only a limited word-count and is quick and easy way to share important news.

I hope this helped you in your social media expedition!

Happy posting!
