#HASTAGS has taken social media in an all-new direction, however not being that new and it was added in the English Oxford Dictionary in 2014. The use of the Hashtag (#) is mostly for searching goals in social media and makes it possible for others to easily find messages with a specific theme or content.

Hashtags are still an effective way to get more Instagram followers or increase your engagement as a brand, you just need to know how to use it correctly. Here are a few tips on the important do’s and don’ts of using hashtags in 2018 (with the help of https://later.com/blog/instagram-hashtags/)

DO use relevant hashtags. Choose tags that describe your account, your business, and your target market.

DON’T Shadowban. You can no longer just copy and paste the exact same list of Instagram hashtags into every single post and think it will create engagement. Shadowban or Spamming is known as the act of blocking a user from an online community in such a way that they don’t realize that they’ve been banned. On Instagram, a shadowban hides your Instagram posts from users who don’t follow you, which can be detrimental to growing your account and getting more followers.

DO come up with new hashtags daily. In addition to the above and to avoid Shadowban you need to create tags that are new and creative. Think of what describes the image best.

DO Make Use Community hashtags. Community Hashtags are tags that connect like-minded users around a specific subject.

DO follow hashtags. You can click on your followings from your profile and toggle from the users that you follow to the hashtags you follow. In that way you don’t need to follow multiple accounts and don’t see posts not relevant to you.
