How to set up the perfect Facebook page for your brand

Talking to small business owners, I realised one thing (out of many of course), and that is that they are intimidated by social media. “Having a friend profile is one thing but having a business page can be scary”. It doesn’t have to be intimidating, in fact in can be fun and can lend to your creative side, all while creating awareness for your business.

Before you set up a page, set up a goal- It is important to have a goal in mind when starting a social media page for your business, whether it may be to create awareness, or to stay in competition, or to create a database, or to drive sales- what ever it may be, work from a goal in mind.

  • Create a username- A username will help people to find you easier on your social media platform and will be able to tag you in posts, remember if you want to tag a Facebook page you need to use the @ sign (@burblestrategies)- many people do not know this!

  • Tell people who you are- In the “about” section you have the opportunity to tell a bit more about your business. The word count is 160 characters, so it is important that you stick with the most vital aspects (who you are and what you do).

  • Don’t tell people what you do, tell people why you do it- One of my favorite authors is Simon Sinek, and if you haven’t listened to his “Golden Circle” video yet you are doing yourself and your business a huge unjust. In short, to promote your business it is not about what you do and offer, but rather why you do it. People love stories, so take your time and tell your story on the “story” section, lastly you can place a nice and captivating image.

  • Upload your Profile picture- I prefer to use the logo of the business for the profile picture. In that way there are no confusion when they search for you. Keep it simple and straight.

  • Design your Cover page- The cover image is something that you can get creative on. Whether it a new sale, a new product, an event coming up or just to say hello and welcome to our page! Important though is to try to keep the look and feel the same- for example try to use the same colors as in your logo, or the same format.

  • Your Call-to action- The call to action can again tie in with your goal, mentioned above. If you want to drive traffic to your website you can choose the website button, if you want to build your database you can choose the mail button, if you want to be informative you can add the message button, whatever fits your objective.

  • Promote- Many people turn to their personal Facebook friends to like their business page, but how many will actually become clients? Better will be to ask you friends to share the page with people they think will be interested. You can join relevant groups to promote your page or you can promote your page by paying for advertising. In this way you can set your target audience and your budget. (Personally, I am still in the dark to whether boosting of posts is the right way to go, but that is a topic for another day).

I hope that this post got you motivated for some goal-setting sessions!
